The crusade is coming... if this madness continues. And it looks like it will, especially in Europe, Canada and Australia. At least the United States has a man and a government trying to clean up and stop it.
In 1095, Pope Urban II stood in Clermont and answered a cry for help. Byzantium, the Christian empire of the East, was under pressure, and the pilgrim routes to Jerusalem were under threat. Thousands of ordinary people left their homes, their land and their families to walk toward something they believed in. Many never came home.
The Crusades were not clean. Terrible things were done in God's name, and we should be able to say that out loud. But at the core was something the West can barely imagine today. People who knew what they stood for, and who were willing to pay the price.
That is what's coming back. The conviction. The sword belongs to the past.
We have built a civilization that is ashamed of its own foundation. We traded faith for comfort. We crossed the line on how much Islamism we let in a long time ago. And now we wonder why no one knows what is worth defending anymore.
The new crusade doesn't march on Jerusalem. It turns inward, back to what built us. And it moves outward. All across the Western world, more and more people are raising their voices and taking to the streets.
And it will only grow.
