Yesterday, I walked - with humility and in solidarity - through the streets of Copenhagen in Denmark, side by side with around 2000 Iranians living here.
For the first time, I met several of them in person, people I have only been in contact with online over the years.
It moved me deeply.
We stood there to support the approximately 90 million Persians who are currently fighting the battle of their lives to break free from the regime’s chains and regain their freedom after 47 years of oppression.
A freedom we, in our part of the world, take for granted.
Despite the fact that we have, at the same time, allowed some of the very same forces into our own countries - forces that have taken that freedom away from the Iranian people.
Persians are not what many people imagine when they think of the Middle East. They are not Muslims. They were Zoroastrian, but were forced into Islam - a forced colonization of their culture.
They are like you and me.
Freedom-loving, strong, and beautiful people who want to live freely - without a religious dictatorship over them.
I believe it is a human right to be the voice of the Iranian people here in the West.
Because they are fighting a battle for all of us - and because freedom is a human right. 🪽
Thank you for letting me walk alongside you yesterday. It was an honor. ❤️🔥
