A Danish politician named Jakob Harris, who calls himself conservative, lines up Judaism and Islam as two sides of the same coin. Let’s take his statement apart, piece by piece.
He rattles off a list. Both practice circumcision, both avoid certain foods, both have gender separation and religious head covering, both come from the Middle East, and both cost the state millions to protect.
Look at what he’s doing. He finds six surface similarities and pretends they make two things identical. The form looks alike. The reality does not.
Let’s first establish who he’s talking about.
The Jews are a peaceful and hardworking people who have always kept to themselves. A small minority that has contributed to our society for generations. They have no reputation for exploiting the system. They don’t refuse to integrate. They don’t demand that our contries be remade around them. They mind their own, and they have done so for centuries.
Now take the gender separation, which is his whole starting point. In Judaism the separation happens inside the synagogue’s prayer room, and only in the Orthodox branch. The rest of Judaism is reformed, exactly like Christianity. Yes, even parts of Orthodox Christianity have gender separation in some places to this day. But in both cases it’s an exception, not the rule. A small remainder in a big picture that moved on long ago.
And that is where the whole difference lies. Judaism reformed itself. Christianity reformed itself. Islam did not. After 1400 years the same law-religion stands there with no reformed mainstream branch, unable to coexist with Western values, precisely because Islam places itself above any law. It’s not a faith that asks for room beside the law. It’s a faith that wants to stand above it.
That is why Islam’s gender separation is something entirely different from the Jews’. It’s the demand that the public swimming pool be closed to men. That the school divide the children. That public space be arranged around the religion. The Jews ask for permission to pray in peace. The other side asks society to bend. That’s where the difference lies, and Jakob Harris chooses not to see it.
Then comes freedom of religion and the demand that we be ‘consistent’ and not ‘selective’. It sounds fine. But freedom of religion is the freedom to believe. It is not a promise that all religions behave the same. Being consistent does not mean treating unequal things as if they were equal. Do that, and you don’t produce justice. You produce a lie.
And then there’s the ugliest line in the whole post. That the Jews ‘cost the Danish treasury millions to protect’.
Yes. They do. Do you know why?
Because they are being murdered. On 15 February 2015, a 37-year-old man named Dan Uzan stood guard outside the Danish synagogue while 80 people, many of them children, celebrated a young girl inside. He was shot in the head and killed by a terrorist. Uzan took the bullet so the children inside didn’t.
That is why the Jews have to be protected. Not because they are dangerous, but because someone wants them dead. And Jakob Harris takes the bill for protecting the victims and turns it against the victims themselves. Think about who does something like that.
And now notice the other half of his equation. Because where exactly are we spending millions to protect the Muslims?
We aren’t. There are no armed guards outside the mosque to prevent a massacre of the worshippers. And do you know why? Because the threat doesn’t run that way. It isn’t the Muslims who are being hunted. It’s the Islamists who are the threat, to the Jews and to the Western population at large.
The man who shot Dan Uzan didn’t come to be protected. He came to kill. And he didn’t act in a vacuum. Because there is a movement that has written it down. Hamas, which rules Gaza, quotes in its own charter from 1988 a hadith, a saying about the prophet Muhammad, taken from the collections of al-Bukhari and Muslim, regarded in Sunni Islam as the most authoritative. It says that the Day of Judgment will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them, and the Jew hides behind stones and trees, and the stone and the tree call out: ‘O Muslim, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.’
That is not a made-up Koran quote. It’s Hamas’s own founding text, word for word. It’s the worldview the man at the synagogue carried with him. And it’s the ideology Jakob Harris now asks us to place on equal footing with the Jews.
Because now watch where he’s going. After all the words about fairness and enlightenment, he lands here: that maybe it’s time to investigate how much influence and control Israel has in Denmark. And he ends with the question of how much the Jews run the country.
There the mask came off.
It was never about swimming pools. It was never about consistency. It’s the oldest conspiracy theory in the world, spoken by a man who calls himself conservative. The question of how much the Jews secretly control. We’ve heard it before. We know where it ends.
You don’t compare a small peaceful people burying their guards and own people with the movement whose man pulled the trigger. Do it anyway, and you’re not being fair. You’re unhinged.
