Another Church in Flames

ANOTHER CHURCH IN FLAMES.

Église Saint-Cyriaque in Montenach, France. Survived both world wars. Historic limestone carvings and artefacts dating back to the 15th century.

Gone.

This is not an isolated incident. It is a pattern - and the numbers are documented.

In 2024 the Austrian watchdog organisation OIDAC Europe recorded 94 arson attacks on churches across Europe - almost double the previous year. One third in Germany alone. France, England, Germany, Spain and Austria top the list. A total of 2,211 anti-Christian hate crimes in Europe in 2024 - including 274 physical attacks on Christian individuals.

Conservative estimate based on documented figures: over 500 confirmed arson attacks on churches in Europe from 2018 to 2024 alone. And that is likely a massive underreporting - most incidents are never reported to the police.

Who is behind it?

A 25-year-old man was arrested for vandalising a church in France with Quran verses inscribed on the walls. In Nice three people were killed when a radical Islamist attacked the Notre-Dame Basilica with a knife. In Paris Muslim vandals broke into a church - burned papers, plunged a knife into the throat of a statue of the Virgin Mary and wrote anti-Christian and pro-Islamic messages throughout. One message read: “Submit yourselves to Allah, infidels.”

In 2016 a team of young jihadists attempted to set fire to Notre Dame Cathedral - they were caught and imprisoned.

But it is not only Islamists.

OIDAC documents that anti-Christian hate crimes are also carried out by radical left-wing groups such as Antifa, radical feminists and LGBTQ activists.

And then there are those who are simply mentally ill or pyromaniac.

The pattern is therefore mixed. But the Islamist component is real and well documented - and is the one that is most rarely mentioned in mainstream media.

And an important nuance that is rarely mentioned: in France Jews are actually the most targeted religious group with 62% of all anti-religious incidents. Christians account for 31%. Muslims 7%.

That says something about who is really under attack in Europe today.

Compare that with what would happen if it were mosques burning at that rate.

The world would stop.

But it is churches. And Europe stays silent.

That is not a coincidence. It is a symptom of exactly what we talk about every single day - a continent that has forgotten what it is built on and no longer dares to defend it. ✝️🪽❤️‍🔥
