“He should never have started that war. Look at gas prices. Look at what it cost Republicans in the election.”
I keep hearing it.
And yes, people have bills to pay. Higher prices hurt. War costs lives, and any president who takes a country into war owes people answers about the objectives, the consequences, and the way out.
But where are the Iranian people in this conversation?
Where are the women who want to live freely? The families who want a future without the regime controlling their lives? The children who deserve to grow up without being taught that obedience is the price of survival?
Do they count? Or do we stop thinking about them the moment their freedom becomes expensive or inconvenient for us?
Some of you talk about Iran as if the biggest tragedy imaginable is paying more to fill up your car.
I think we can manage a bigger conversation than that.
A regime in Tehran that funds proxies across the Middle East and threatens shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is behind both the wars and the prices.
When it falls and the Iranian people take their country back, there will be more peace in the Middle East, creating opportunities for greater cooperation across civilizations. It will change the world and be the biggest historical moment in our time.
That perspective reaches far beyond the everyday concerns of people in the West.
That deserves serious consideration when we talk about the world our children will inherit.
So question the war. Question Trump. Demand answers. You should.
But if your entire argument begins and ends with gas prices and whether Republicans lost votes, you’re leaving millions of people out of the picture.
Our responsibility on this earth reaches beyond our own comfort. We also have to think about what we’re willing to tolerate, who pays the price for it, and what we leave behind.
The Iranian people’s future deserves more than a passing mention in a conversation about our expenses.
And our children’s future deserves more than decisions made around the next election.
You don’t have to agree. Just stop for a moment and think about it on a deeper level, without letting your ego and feelings dictate your impulsive answer. That’s all I ask for.
