CHRISTIANITY BUILT THE WEST

CHRISTIANITY BUILT THE WEST

CHRISTIANITY BUILT THE WEST

We have a lot of people in Europe who are practically fighting to make sure that Christianity holds no meaning for our countries. That Western civilization was not built on Christian values.

In the comment sections they happily put Christianity on par with Islam, tell us it is just as restrictive and oppressive toward women, and season the whole thing with Bible verses ripped out of context.

Just imagine for a moment a Europe where they got their way. Where Christianity was pulled out. Not just out of the schools and the preambles, but out of the very foundation.

What would be left then?

Take the idea that every single human being has an inviolable worth. Not because they are strong, beautiful, useful or born in the right place, but because they are made in the image of God. That idea did not just drop down from the sky as some neutral European set of values. It came from somewhere specific.

Human rights. The conscience of the individual against those in power. The idea that even a king answers to something higher than himself. That the weak must be protected from the strong. That you can forgive your enemy. That faith and power are not the same thing, render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s.

It was not Islam that gave us this. It was not atheism. And it was not the fourth wave of one thing or another.

It was Athens, Rome and Jerusalem. Greek philosophy, Roman law and Christianity. Three pillars that together built Western civilization.

But notice something. They are not tearing into Aristotle. They are not burning Roman law to the ground. They go straight for the one pillar that carries the very values they live off every single day. The inviolable worth of the individual. Equality. Forgiveness. Conscience against power.

The one they are fighting is the one that holds them up.

And then there is the thing about the oppression of women.

It is almost laughable. In an age where women were property, it was Jesus who spoke with them, let them follow him, and let women be the first witnesses to the resurrection. In a culture where a woman’s word barely counted in a court of law.

They find one verse in the Old Testament, rip it out of three thousand years, and hold it up as proof. Meanwhile they themselves live every single day on a freedom, an equality and a forgiveness that have exactly one root. The one they are fighting.

Saw away. Just don’t call it enlightenment. Call it what it is. Arrogance. Ingratitude. Blindness.
