Jews do not hate Christians
It’s a myth that has existed for centuries, and it’s still being pushed today, by Islamists, by certain Christian nationalists, and by antisemites on both the far right and the far left.
Here is what is true:
There are passages in the Talmud that critics rip out of context to “prove” Jewish hatred of Christians. Most are mistranslated, taken from rabbinic debates, or refer to pagans in a specific historical context, not to Christians today. Orthodox Judaism does not recognize Jesus as the Messiah, but that is theological disagreement, not hatred.
Some ultra-Orthodox Jews in Israel have spat at Christian priests in Jerusalem. It’s real and documented. But it’s a small fringe, not Judaism as a whole. Most Israelis and Jews worldwide condemn it.
Here is what is false:
The claim that “the Jews” as a people or religion hate Christians. It is a classic antisemitic trope going back to the Middle Ages, when Jews were accused of everything from poisoning wells to ritual murder of Christian children. It lives on today in different forms.
Here is the actual reality:
Israel is the only country in the Middle East where the Christian population is growing. In every neighboring country it shrinks, because Christians are persecuted, expelled, or killed. Evangelical Christians are among Israel’s strongest allies. Many Jewish organizations work hand in hand with Christian groups.
The Christians who are actually being beheaded, crucified, burned, and driven out today, they are killed by Islamists in Syria, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Egypt, and Sudan.
And in Palestinian-controlled areas too. Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus, was around 80% Christian in 1950. Today it is under 10%. That collapse did not happen under Israeli rule. It happened under Hamas, under the Palestinian Authority, and under social pressure from the Muslim majority. It is one of the most ignored stories of the entire conflict.
Not by Jews.
Why this lie works:
It keeps Christians sitting still while their actual persecutors gain ground. It’s the perfect misdirection. Get the victim to fear the wrong enemy.
